In 1985 a group of folks from EFC made a
Spring Break missions trip to Mexicali, Mexico. From that initial
trip a new ministry has grown. God has opened a remarkable range
of connections in the Mexicali valley and in the city of San
Luis, a border town due south of Yuma, AZ. We have been involved
in helping small churches get into a first building, repairing
aging buildings, building houses for those living in marginal
structures and doing Bible Schools with children. Our trips
are inter-generational. Traveling, working and ministering together
has helped different age groups within the church to build relationships
not easily accomplished here at home.
Out theme in 2004 is a call to be “Cross
Cultural”. Not only will we give away our Spring Break
by serving in another culture, we will seek to serve as people
of the cross. This service will take the form of several construction
projects. We will be involved in the construction of two houses,
completing the church building we started two years ago by building
a steel truss/roof system and coming alongside a small country
school by providing some basic materials for their classrooms
and playground space. A daily Bible School will take place in
cooperation with our host church and we will be distributing
Bibles in several venues.
If you are interested in being a part of our
team (March 23 thru April 1) call the EFC office or Get-Away
Give-Away’s number, 541-345-8054. Cost for this year’s
trip is $440. If you can’t make the trip but would like
to be a part of our team’s ministry you might want to
help in underwriting some part of a house or by providing some
materials for the school. Each house we build costs about $2700.
Generally, we are able to raise 70% of our construction budget
through registrations of participants. The balance we must raise
as people come alongside with donations. As you give thanks
for your own home you might want to bless a family that currently
lives in a cardboard and pallet house.
Here is a list of the items we will be collecting
for the country school:
Notebook paper
Three ring binders
Pencils
Crayons
Reams of white paper
Books in Spanish
Typewriters
Computers
Educational software in Spanish
Soccer balls, volleyballs, bats, softballs, frisbees

White glue
Construction paper
Rulers and compasses
Chalkboard chalk and erasers
Chalkboard paint
These items need to be brought to EFC no later
than March 10. Thanks for your part in our “Cross Cultural”
ministry.
